8 before 8

This morning, I ran 8 miles. Although I am a morning person, getting up at 5:30am and heading out for a run in the dark is not my idea of fun. The first couple miles were hard, but I kept going and finished strong. This is part of training for a half-marathon at the end of April.

I want to finish this race faster than the one last October. So, in my coach/husband added one day of speed training (short distance repeats at a super-fast pace) and one day for tempo runs (longer distance at a semi-fast pace).ย  I don’t like these workouts, but I can tell that I am getting stronger and a bit faster, so I’ll stick with it. Last week, I got a bit of motivation in the form of cold, hard cash – I found $100 in the street as I ran back home after my speed workout! I didn’t see any benjamins this week, but my biggest cheerleaders were at home waiting for me to return, which is even better (although a soon-to-be 1 year old baby can’t get me a new pair of shoes ๐Ÿ™‚ ).

I’m looking forward to have two days of rest before getting back to it on Monday.

    When I saw the title, for the life of me I couldn’t imagine eight (what) before eight (what). Eight miles before eight in the morning is quite impressive, your training continues to serve as gentle encouragement for me to get more active.
